International Protection popularly known as IP rating is an international standard that describes the degree of protection against the ingress of solid and liquid foreign substances.
IP Ratings are denoted with the letters IP and then followed by two numbers. The first number refers to the level of protection against solids (dust, finger, hands, etc.) and the second number refers to protection from moisture (submersion in water, pressurized water).
For example, a product that comes with an IP68 rating has level 6 protection from solid ingress and level 8 moisture protection. Some ratings will have X in them e.g., IPX6 which means it has no protection.
